Richard Fairchild

Richard Fairchild is a Senior Lecturer in Corporate Finance at the University of Bath's School of Management. He holds affiliations with the Centre for Business, Organisations and Society (CBOS), the Centre for Research in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Bath Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change. His research focuses on behavioral finance, venture capital contracting, and neuro-economics, particularly analyzing social preferences (altruism, trust) and emotions in investor behavior. He collaborates with the Psychology Department on neuro-finance experiments and works with external practitioners on social investment projects.

Research interests include behavioral corporate finance, venture capital dynamics, and social enterprise financing. He has conducted studies on CEO narcissism's impact on credit ratings, community bank performance, and microfinance lending defaults. Projects include the EU-funded Social Enterprise & Innovation Programme (SEIP) and a KTP project with Bullman Investment Management LLP. Supervises doctoral students in corporate finance, venture capital, and social investing.

Publications span 58 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work in Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Financial Stability, and International Journal of Finance and Economics. Active in presenting research at international conferences and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through impact investing studies.
