Dr. Richard Edmund Phillips is the Presidential Assistant Professor of Neurology and Chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology at the Department of Neurology, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He also serves as the Neuro-Oncology Fellowship Director. His research integrates chromatin biology, neuroscience, and cancer biology to explore epigenetic mechanisms in brain cancer.
- BSc, Genetics – University College London (2001)
- MD, Medicine – King's College London (2009)
- PhD, Immunology – King's College London (2009)
His work focuses on epigenetic regulation and chromatin biology in brain cancer, particularly glioma and diffuse midline glioma. Publications highlight oncogenic gene repression, metabolic vulnerabilities, and targeted therapies for brain tumors. Recent studies include chromatin dynamics in glioma and chemical strategies for brain-penetrant inhibitors.
Dr. Phillips’ lab collaborates with institutions like Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Rockefeller University. He has held postdoctoral research roles in chromatin biology and completed clinical training in neurology and neuro-oncology at Harvard and Memorial Sloan Kettering.
