Richard Coady

Richard Coady is a Lecturer and Assistant Head of Department at the Department of Education, School of Education and Lifelong Learning at SETU. He leads the SETU Music School and oversees the MA in Management in Education programme. His research focuses on arts education, teacher identity, curriculum development, and inclusion in education.

Education background includes a BA in Music (2011) and MEd (2012) from Trinity College Dublin, followed by a PhD in Education from Dublin City University (2022). His doctoral research examined teachers’ experiences in the National Children’s Choir, exploring how their values shape curricula and participation dynamics.

Key research interests include: arts integration in education, participatory learning models, and teacher professional development. His work often intersects with policy implications for Ireland’s music curriculum and primary education.

Recent publications (2021–2025) address music education challenges during the pandemic, teacher participation in national initiatives, and curriculum innovation. His 2022 PhD thesis and 2025 journal article highlight transformative educational practices through qualitative methodologies.
