Nóra Kavanagh is a Lecturer in the Department of Arts at South East Technological University, specializing in music education, performance, and composition with a focus on Irish traditional music. Her work emphasizes creativity, inclusivity, and lifelong learning, integrating pedagogical innovation across face-to-face and online platforms.
Research Interests:
Her academic contributions include publications such as Mo Cheol (2024), a collection of original Irish dance tunes inspired by South East Ireland's culture, and Music & Memories (2020), documenting a century of Waterford's musical heritage. Her postgraduate research explored regional flute styles in pre-Revival Irish music, while her undergraduate work analyzed Turlough Carolan's 20th-century revival.
Teaching & Leadership:
Since 1995, she has delivered modules in Irish music history, performance, and composition at SETU. She has led orchestras and ensembles since 2000, including the SETU ITM Orchestra and Music Generation Waterford. Currently, she advises the Eircheoil project in Youghal, developing their orchestra and workshops.

Her roles include Musical Director for multiple ensembles and advisor for cultural initiatives like the Eircheoil project, blending academic research with community engagement in music.
