Richard Clark is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at John Carroll University, where he has taught since 1995. His scholarship examines criminal justice operations, capital punishment, forgiveness paradigms, human rights advocacy, and peacebuilding initiatives, with geographic emphases on Northern Ireland and South Africa.
Teaching areas include foundational sociology, social justice, death penalty studies, prisons/human rights, and violence/drug-crime relationships. Clark founded the university's Peace, Justice & Human Rights program and led conflict transformation trips to Northern Ireland and South Africa. As a 2011 Carl Wilkens Genocide Fellow, he builds anti-atrocity constituencies nationally.
Honors recognize his teaching excellence, community engagement, and contributions to death penalty discourse. Clark holds a PhD in criminal justice from SUNY Albany.
