Richard Cahoon is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Global Development at Cornell University. With over 30 years of expertise in invention, intellectual property (IP), technology development, entrepreneurship, and innovation, he focuses on leveraging IP assets for economic development and public benefit. He has advised governments, international organizations, and institutions across 25+ countries, including the World Bank, UN, and USAID.

- Ph.D. Natural Resources – Cornell University
His research emphasizes inventiveness, IP management, and biotechnology applications in agriculture. He designed the WIPO-funded multi-country project to strengthen IP and entrepreneurship in Asia. Current interests include creative arts innovation and social impact mechanisms.
Teaches 'Invention & IP Management for Practitioners' at Cornell and globally via webinars. Active in IP litigation, valuation, and startup creation. Collaborates with the Plant Breeding and Genetics Section and Cornell AgriTech.
