Richard C. Sansing

Richard C. Sansing is the Noble Foundation Professor of Accounting at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where he has been on the faculty since 1998. He also serves as a visiting professor at Tilburg University. Prior to joining Dartmouth, Professor Sansing taught at the Yale School of Management from 1990-98 and worked in the tax department of Arthur Andersen & Co. in Houston from 1979-84.

His educational background includes a PhD in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin (1990) and a BBA from the same institution (1979).

Professor Sansing's research focuses on the application of economic modeling to tax and accounting issues, with particular expertise in accounting for income taxes, nonprofit organizations, multijurisdictional taxation, tax compliance, and corporate governance. His work bridges theoretical economic models with practical tax and accounting applications.

His recent research publications demonstrate a consistent focus on tax policy analysis, corporate tax planning, multinational taxation issues, and the intersection of tax law with financial reporting. Key trends in his work include examining how tax regulations affect corporate behavior, analyzing international tax systems, and developing frameworks for measuring tax preferences and aggressiveness.

Professor Sansing has served in significant administrative roles including Associate Dean for Faculty from 2015-18, where he worked on faculty hiring, promotion, and budget issues. He also hosts an annual Texas BBQ for the Tuck GIVES charity auction winners, supporting students working with nonprofit organizations. His extensive conference presentations and workshop invitations demonstrate his influence in the academic accounting and taxation fields.

Beyond academia, Professor Sansing is an active participant in chess and bridge tournaments, holding the rank of USCF Expert in chess and ACBL Life Master in bridge. He resides in Lebanon, NH with his wife Deana.
