He co-directs the ‘Cinema and Technology’ collection at Presses de l’Université de Montréal and is affiliated with CRIalt and GRAFICS research groups. His work bridges academic research and artistic creation, focusing on mediality, AI, disaster representations, and the interplay between body, knowledge, and technology.
Research Interests: Bégin’s research explores media archaeology, sound studies, cinematic horror, and the mediation of catastrophe. His interdisciplinary approach examines how technological innovations (e.g., GoPro, mobile media) reshape narrative forms and bodily experiences. Key themes include post-apocalyptic aesthetics, trauma representation, and the haunting qualities of media.

He leads projects such as *Crises et résistances des identités médiatiques à l’ère de la pandémie* (FRQSC-funded) and *Rythmes de montage* (SSHRC-funded). His creative works (e.g., albums with Reverse Alignment) interrogate sound’s relationship to disaster and memory.
Teaching & Supervision: He teaches courses on media archaeology, documentary film, and science fiction. Supervised 13 theses, including doctoral work on cinematic trauma and master’s studies on horror aesthetics and digital media practices.
Labs & Affiliations: Member of CRIalt (intermedia research) and GRAFICS (cinematic identity research). Serves as director of the journal *Cinémas* and collaborates internationally on projects like *Paysages-catastrophes* (XVIe–XXe s.).
