Dr. Marion Froger, Professor in the Department of Art History, Cinema, and Audiovisual Media at the University of Montreal, is a leading scholar in film studies with a focus on intermediality, sociality, and collective imaginaries. Her research spans documentary practices, political cinema, and affect theory, interrogating how films mediate communal experiences and spectatorship.
- Member of CÉRIUM (Centre d'études et de recherches internationales) and CRIalt (Centre de recherches intermédiales sur les arts, les lettres et les techniques).
- Supervises PhD and MA students on topics ranging from transgressive femininity in Tunisian cinema to collaborative filmmaking in post-conflict zones.
Her projects include Intermediality: History and Theory (2015-2021) and Du politique dans l'usage des archives (2024-2025), funded by CRSH and FRQSC. She has authored monographs including Le cinéma à l'épreuve de la communauté (2010), awarded the Prix du Canada en sciences sociales (2011). Froger's recent work explores breath as a cinematic motif in Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche's films and affective urban geographies.
