Richard Burdekin is the Jonathan B. Lovelace Professor of Economics at Claremont McKenna College's Robert Day School of Economics and Finance. His expertise spans Central Bank Policymaking, the Chinese Economy, and Money & Finance, with additional interests in Macroeconomics and Sports Economics. He holds degrees from the University of Warwick (B.A.), University of Bristol (M.Sc.), and University of Houston (M.A., Ph.D.).
Research focuses on Chinese economic reforms, financial market dynamics, central bank responses to crises, and historical economic phenomena like deflation. Notable contributions include analyses of pandemic-era monetary policies, cross-border financial linkages between China and other regions, and the impact of historical events (e.g., Cuban Missile Crisis, Spanish Flu) on financial markets.
Recipient of the 2022–2023 Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Scholar Grant, Dr. Burdekin serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Financial Economic Policy and Journal of Risk and Financial Management. His work bridges macroeconomic theory with real-world policy applications, emphasizing historical context and global interdependence.
