Dr. Richard Blanchard is a Reader in Renewable Energy at Loughborough University, based in the Wolfson School. He leads Energy and Power Engineering Research, focusing on renewable energy systems, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. His work emphasizes microgeneration, photovoltaics, bioenergy, and grid resilience in developing regions like Malawi and Uganda.
Qualifications include a PhD (University of Wales), PGCE (University of East Anglia), and Fellowships from the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and IEEE (SMIEEE). He has received the Baker Medal (2011) for microgeneration research and contributed to e-learning innovations recognized by the ACPI Prize (2015).
Research interests span renewable energy policy, energy systems resilience, and sustainable technology adoption. Notable projects include analyzing Malawi’s power grid resilience post-cyclone Ana (2022), biogas adoption challenges, and hydrogen feasibility studies.
