Pamela Jagger is a Professor of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) and Associate Director of the African Studies Center. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Indiana University, alongside degrees in Forest Economics and Economics from the University of Alberta. Her research focuses on poverty-environment interactions, energy poverty, and climate resilience, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Her work leads the FUEL Lab and directs the NSF-funded Energy Poverty PIRE program in Southern Africa. Key themes include forest livelihoods, environmental governance, and clean energy access. Recent studies examine solar technology adoption in Malawi, tuberculosis risks linked to biomass cooking, and cyclone impacts on health systems.
Awards include a 2024/25 Woodrow Wilson Center Fellowship. She collaborates globally, including with Malawi's LUANAR and institutions in Germany and Sweden. Her grants include NIH funding for health aging studies in Kenya and NSF support for energy access research.
