Richard Bingham is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical & Life Sciences at the Department of Physical and Life Sciences, School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield. He is an active member of the Cellular and Molecular Models of Disease Centre and the Biopolymer Research Centre, contributing to interdisciplinary research in structural biology and biophysics.
His research interests focus on the structural and thermodynamic properties of biomolecules, including protein-ligand interactions, pectin biopolymers, and pathogenic proteins from Borrelia burgdorferi. He employs techniques such as X-ray crystallography, molecular dynamics simulations, isothermal titration calorimetry, and small-angle X-ray scattering to investigate molecular mechanisms in health and disease.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend in computational and experimental structural biology, with work on viral glycoproteins, genome stability proteins, and bacterial enzymes. These studies span virology, microbiology, and polymer science, demonstrating a multidisciplinary approach.
Richard Bingham is actively involved in peer review and editorial work for journals such as Pathogens, Antibiotics, and Current Proteomics, and is a member of the Royal Society of Biology. He supervises PhD students and contributes to research degree programs at the University of Huddersfield.
His laboratory and research activities are supported by collaborations across institutions and are aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being.
