Richard Bethlehem is an Assistant Professor of Neuroinformatics and Director of Neuroimaging at the Autism Research Centre, University of Cambridge. He holds a position in the Department of Psychology within the School of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on understanding lifespan brain development and aging through big data neuroimaging approaches, integrating genetics, transcriptomics, and computational methods to study neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions.
Research Focus: Bethlehem leads projects examining:
- Multimodal neuroimaging of brain maturation trajectories
- Genetic and transcriptomic correlates of cortical organization
- Population-level brain charting across the lifespan
- Neurobiological mechanisms underlying autism, ADHD, Alzheimer's, and schizophrenia
- Development of computational tools for large-scale neuroimaging data integration
Publication Trends: His recent work (2022-2024) demonstrates:
- Pioneering use of UK Biobank data for neurodevelopmental disorder research
- Advancements in normative brain modeling across the lifespan
- Methodological innovations in neuroimaging quality control and analysis
- Investigation of sex differences in brain development
- Integration of genetic, transcriptomic, and neuroimaging data
