Richard Öhrvall is an Assistant Professor at Linköping University, affiliated with the Centre for Local Government Studies (CKS) and the Department of Culture and Society (IKOS). He holds a PhD in Political Science from Linköping University (2018) and an MA from Uppsala University (2002). His research focuses on political participation, social trust, public corruption, and urban-rural polarization, employing quantitative methods such as statistical analysis and text modeling.
Key areas of investigation include youth voter habits, geographic voting patterns, and the impact of local governance structures on political engagement. He has contributed to understanding the role of birth order in political candidacy and the effects of mock elections on youth turnout. Recent work explores polarization between urban and rural regions in Sweden, as well as stigma effects related to radical-right voting behavior.
