Ricardo Miranda is an Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College, City University of New York, where he serves as Emerging Media Concentration Head. His work bridges art, technology, and social justice, focusing on themes like immigration, discrimination, and globalization through populist metaphors and critical perspectives in public spaces.
- Education: M.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University; B.A. in Practice of Art and English Literature from University of California at Berkeley.
Ricardo’s practice as a social practice artist examines systemic inequality and urban transformation. His projects engage communities via interactive media and public installations, reflecting his upbringing as the child of immigrants in San Francisco and Nicaragua. His research intersects contemporary art, digital media, and diaspora studies.
Scientific awards include prestigious fellowships and residencies such as the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, Eyebeam Artist Residency, and Franklin Furnace’s Future of the Present Fellowship. These honors highlight his contributions to experimental media and socially engaged art.
