Ricardo C. Aguiar, M.D., Ph.D. is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Biochemistry & Structural Biology, Department of Medicine (Division of Hematology-Oncology), and Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics. His research is affiliated with the Mays Cancer Center.
Dr. Aguiar's research focuses on the identification and functional characterization of genetic abnormalities in hematologic malignancies, with particular emphasis on B-cell lymphoma. His laboratory utilizes both in vitro and in vivo systems for genome-wide and targeted studies with the goal of translating discoveries into clinical applications.
His primary research interests include:
- BCR signaling pathways and phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) as therapeutic targets in B-cell malignancies
- Metabolic imbalance and epigenetic reprogramming in lymphomas
- Transcription factor IRF8 in lymphomagenesis
- Genetic abnormalities in hematologic malignancies
Analysis of Dr. Aguiar's recent publications reveals a strong focus on molecular mechanisms of lymphoma development, with particular attention to immune evasion strategies, signaling pathways, and therapeutic targets. His work spans from basic molecular mechanisms to translational clinical applications, particularly in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
Dr. Aguiar has published 78 research papers with over 8,325 citations and maintains an h-index of 39, demonstrating significant impact in his field. His fingerprint analysis shows strong contributions to Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma research (100%), Nested Gene studies (77%), B Cell biology (69%), Mutation analysis (47%), and related areas.
