Margaret A. Shipp, M.D. holds the Douglas S. Miller Chair and serves as Chief of the Division of Hematologic Neoplasia within the Department of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, leading a multi-disciplinary research program focused on aggressive lymphoid malignancies.
Her laboratory specializes in characterizing molecular signatures and genetic alterations in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), with emphasis on subtype-specific survival pathways and immune evasion mechanisms. Pioneering work identified chromosome 9p24.1 amplification in cHL as the basis for PD-1 ligand overexpression, directly enabling FDA-approved PD-1 blockade therapies. Current research integrates genomic, transcriptomic, and functional analyses to translate molecular heterogeneity into improved diagnostics and targeted treatments for high-risk patients.
The Shipp Laboratory comprises specialized teams:
- Administrative Team
- Analyses of Immune Evasion Mechanisms and Signaling Pathways in Large B-Cell Lymphomas
- Comprehensive Molecular Signatures of Lymphoid Malignancies
- DNA Damage Repair Pathways in Lymphoid Malignancies
- Genetic Bases of Immune Evasion in Hodgkin Lymphoma
- Multiparametric Analyses of Essential Signaling Pathways
- Physiologic and Oncogenic B-Cell Receptor Signaling
