Professor Ric Day is a renowned academic at UNSW Sydney, affiliated with the Department of Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology at St Vincent's Clinical School. His primary roles include Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Rheumatology, Director of Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology at St Vincent's Hospital, and a practicing clinician. He is internationally recognized for his leadership in Quality Use of Medicines (QUM), particularly in rheumatology, diabetes, and medication safety. His research focuses on optimizing drug therapies, electronic medication systems, and decision support tools.
Education: MB BS (Hons) from Sydney University, MD from UNSW, and fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). He has supervised over 97 students across Honours, PhD, and post-doctoral programs.
Key research interests include gout management, metformin safety in chronic diseases, and the impact of eHealth tools on medication adherence. He has published over 735 journal articles, including in NEJM, BMJ, and Lancet, and holds grants from NHMRC and industry partnerships.
Awards include Member of the Order of Australia (2000), Excellence in Mentoring Award (2012), and Fellowship of ASCEPT (2022). He leads national committees on medication safety and policy, including roles with the NSW Ministry of Health and the National Prescribing Service (NPS).
