معرفی
Rianne S. Lous is an Assistant Professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), working within the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education at the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute. She joined the Coherence and Quantum Technology (CQT) group in June 2022 and leads the SIntAQS (Sensing Interactions in Atomic Quantum Systems) research group. Her work focuses on quantum technologies, particularly in the atomic, molecular and optical physics domain.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences and Physics and Astronomy at Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands
- Master's degree (with honors) in Nanoscience at University of Groningen, Netherlands (included internship at ITAMP, USA)
- Ph.D. and first PostDoc at University of Innsbruck and IQOQI (Austrian Academy of Sciences) in Prof. Grimm's group
- PostDoc at University of Amsterdam in Dr. Rene Gerritsma's group (2019)
Rianne Lous's research primarily focuses on quantum simulation and computation with ultracold atoms and ions. Her work centers on understanding interactions in atomic, molecular and optical systems, with specific interests in ion-atom mixtures and Rydberg atom quantum computing. She is particularly interested in impurity physics, quantum chemistry and sensing, as well as quantum simulation & computation with ultracold atoms & ions. Her research aims to build quantum computers that can calculate properties of quantum many-body systems or build quantum simulators to improve fundamental understanding of quantum phenomena.
Her recent publications show a strong focus on experimental quantum physics, particularly exploring ion-atom interactions, buffer gas cooling techniques, and chemical reactions in ultracold environments. Her work bridges theoretical quantum physics with practical experimental setups, contributing significantly to the understanding of quantum many-body systems and their potential applications in quantum computing.
Scientific Awards:
- Marie-Sklodowska Curie European fellowship from the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation program
Rianne Lous actively supervises multiple students at various levels. Her current research group includes PhD candidates Claudia Galantini and Luc Verwaal, along with BSc student Borys Lelonkiewicz. She has previously supervised several MSc students and BSc students including Iris Podbevsek, Rogier Venderbosch, and Luuk van Leendert. Her research is supported by multiple funding sources including the European Union's Horizon programs and Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research.
She is establishing the SIntAQS laboratory, which focuses on building an ultra-high vacuum setup where a hybrid atom-ion system can be controlled and studied using electric, magnetic, and optical fields. This experimental setup aims to explore quantum simulation of many-body physics, quantum computation, sensing, and chemistry using trapped ions and ultracold neutral quantum gases.
