Rhys Davies is a Senior Research Fellow and Cardiff Co-Director of the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research and Data (WISERD) at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University. His research focuses on labor economics, employment market dynamics, and data-driven policy analysis. He has extensive experience in large-scale primary data collection and analysis of secondary data sources, contributing to influential reports like the Skills and Employment Survey series. His work bridges academic research and policy impact, with frequent presentations to policy experts and advisory boards.
Prior to his current role, Davies worked at the Institute for Employment Research at Warwick University (1999-2006) and the Office for National Statistics (2006-09). His research spans labor market inequality, union membership trends, workplace safety, and gender pay gaps. Collaborations include the Wales Centre for Public Policy and international organizations like etui.
Key research interests include occupational injuries, high-performance work practices, and the intergenerational transmission of union membership. His recent projects address AI adoption in workplaces, remote work dynamics, and educational inequity in Wales. Davies has published in top journals such as the British Journal of Industrial Relations and Cambridge Journal of Economics, and his work has informed policy debates on labor rights and economic fairness.
He leads WISERD’s applied research initiatives, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to social and economic challenges.
