Professor Thomas Hall serves as Head of School at the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University and has been affiliated with Cardiff since its establishment. His academic focus lies at the intersection of anthropology, sociology, and urban studies, with a primary interest in inequality management in urban public spaces. Key research areas include homelessness, youth transitions, spatial practices of urban care, and devolved governance.

Research Interests: Thomas Hall’s work combines theoretical and empirical approaches to examine urban environments and social dynamics. He explores how marginalized populations, such as homeless individuals and youth, navigate public spaces and interact with social services. His methodologies emphasize ethnography, mixed methods, and innovative qualitative techniques, particularly through his role in the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research Data and Methods (WISERD). Recent studies include a five-year ethnographic analysis of urban care practices and street cleaning services in central Cardiff.
