Rhona S. Weinstein

Rhona S. Weinstein is a Professor Emerita and Professor of the Graduate School in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. Her career spans over four decades, beginning with her appointment at UC Berkeley in 1973. She holds a Ph.D. in clinical/community psychology from Yale University, with earlier degrees from McGill University.

Her research focuses on educational equity, expectancy effects in classrooms, and school reform. Notable projects include the California College Preparatory Academy and development of the Teacher Treatment Inventory (TTI). Awards include the Berkeley Citation (2007), Chancellor’s Award (2006), and AERA’s Division K Book Award for Reaching Higher.

She has served as Director of the Clinical Science Program, Psychology Clinic co-director, and faculty co-director for UC Berkeley’s early college school initiative with Aspire Public Schools. Her work bridges participatory action research with community psychology principles.
