Rhona Mahony

Rhona Mahony is an Honorary Clinical Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and holds an adjunct teaching fellowship at Trinity College Dublin. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Women and Children’s Clinical Academic Directorate within the Ireland East Healthcare Group, overseeing healthcare for a population of one million. Previously, she was Master of the National Maternity Hospital (NMH) in Dublin from 2012 to 2018, one of Europe’s largest maternity hospitals.

Her expertise lies in maternal and fetal medicine, women’s healthcare, and promoting equality in healthcare access. She advocates for gender equality and intergenerational social equity through healthcare and societal participation. Dr. Mahony has received numerous accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate of Medicine from NUI and an Eisenhower Fellowship for leadership in 2014.

She founded the National Maternity Foundation in 2013 to support NMH’s mission and serves on the boards of St. Vincent’s Hospital and the Little Museum of Dublin. Her work emphasizes advancing obstetric, neonatal, and gynaecological care while fostering inclusive healthcare systems.
