Dr. Rhodri Jerrett is a Senior Lecturer in Earth Science at The University of Manchester, leading research in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and paleoclimatology. He holds roles including Admissions Tutor and former Fieldwork Coordinator in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Educated at Imperial College (MSci, 2006) and the University of Liverpool (PhD, 2010), he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2022).
His research focuses on reconstructing environmental change through sedimentology and geochemistry, with emphasis on rapid global warming events and sedimentary system dynamics. Major projects include NERC-funded studies on Paleocene-Greenhouse climates and Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary events, totaling over £1M in grants. He has supervised 10+ PhD students and 35+ undergraduate projects, co-developing field courses like the Pembrokeshire Field Course.
Rhodri’s external roles include President of the British Sedimentological Research Group (2022–2025) and External Examiner at the University of Leeds and Liverpool. Ongoing research explores microplastic transport in peat bogs and slope sediment dynamics in New Zealand. His work contributes to UN SDGs related to climate action (SDG 13) and sustainable development through geological insights.
