Ulrich Heimhofer

Ulrich Heimhofer is a Professor of Geology at the Department of Geology, Leibniz University Hannover. He holds leadership roles including Deputy Management of the Institute of Geology and Institute of Earth System Sciences, and represents professors on multiple faculty councils. His research focuses on sedimentology, stable isotope geochemistry, and Cretaceous paleoclimatology. He has authored over 77 publications since 2004, with recent work addressing Cretaceous stratigraphy, microbial carbonates, and angiosperm evolution. Awards include the Hermann Credner Prize (2009). He leads projects like the 12th International Chalk Symposium and investigates paleoclimate archives in Tibet and Mongolia. He serves on editorial boards for journals like Cretaceous Research and advises institutions including the German Society for Geosciences (DGGV).

Research Interests: Stable isotope chemostratigraphy, sedimentary organic matter preservation, stratigraphic palynology, Mesozoic paleoclimates, and carbonate factory dynamics. Current projects explore Cretaceous climate shifts, cold-seep carbonates, and early angiosperm evolution through Bayesian stratigraphic methods.
