Rhett Spear is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Idaho's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Based at the Aberdeen Research and Extension Center, his work focuses on potato variety evaluation and management optimization. He holds a Ph.D. from Washington State University (2015) and B.S. from Utah State University (2010).
Dr. Spear's research examines agronomic and economic aspects of new potato varieties, establishing management profiles and cultural practices for improved production. His work bridges field trials with economic analysis to enhance potato industry sustainability.
His publications demonstrate expertise in potato breeding evaluation, row spacing optimization, and quality assessment. Recent work has characterized new russet varieties with improved yield, disease resistance, and market qualities.
