Rey Chow is the Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Professor in the Humanities at Duke University. Her work focuses on critical theory, global geopolitics, and post-Enlightenment intellectual practices. In Spring 2025, she will present the Gauss Seminars in Criticism at Princeton University, which will include a public lecture titled 'Liberal Democracy versus Totalitarianism? Misleading Terms of the New Cold War' and a seminar titled 'Critique beyond the Euro-American World: Limits and Possibilities.'
Her research interrogates the philosophical and historical intersections of terms like 'liberal democracy' and 'totalitarianism,' drawing on thinkers such as Roberto Esposito. She explores the applicability of critique in non-Euro-American contexts and its potential to reframe contemporary geopolitical conflicts.
