Reuben Kline is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Stony Brook University since 2018, having joined the department in 2011. He directs the Center for Behavioral Political Economy and serves as editor of the American Political Science Association's Experimental Research newsletter. His academic credentials include a PhD in Political Science from UC Irvine, with concentrations in Political Economy/Public Choice, alongside MA degrees in Mathematical Behavioral Science, Economics, and International Trade Policy from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, George Washington University, and other institutions.
His research focuses on behavioral game theory, experiments, and survey methods to study fairness perceptions, climate change mitigation, behavioral ethics, and public opinion. Key areas include moral hazard in geoengineering, disaster prevention strategies, and the interplay between self-interest and fairness principles in social dilemmas. Kline's work bridges political science with economics and psychology, addressing complex challenges like climate policy design and institutional trust.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on American government, comparative politics, and advanced political economy. His research has been published in Nature Climate Change, Nature Human Behaviour, and leading political science journals. Kline actively seeks to advance experimental political science through his editorial work and interdisciplinary collaborations.
