Renzo A. Cenciarini serves as Associate Professor of Practice in Corporate Finance and Real Estate at SDA Bocconi School of Management, Bocconi University, and holds a Contract Professorship in the Department of Management and Technology. With a 34-year collaboration history since 1990, he teaches across flagship programs including full-time/part-time MBA, Master in Corporate Finance, Executive MBA, and Executive Master in Finance, specializing in entrepreneurship, asset restructuring, valuation, and M&A.
His academic journey began with a magna cum laude Economics degree from Università Bocconi, where he earned the Nestlé prize and gold medal for his dissertation, followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School as a JP Morgan Fellow.
Research focuses on value creation through entrepreneurial uniqueness and disruptive behavior, recently crystallized in the course 'Managing the Growing Entrepreneurial Venture.' Earlier work centered on corporate restructuring of invested capital, evolving into current expertise in startup scaling challenges and special situation acquisitions. His scholarship bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications in venture capital, private equity, and turnaround management.
Publication trends since 2000 reveal progressive specialization: early internet startup valuation (2000), global production analysis (2006), distressed M&A (2010), and contemporary scaling obstacles (2021), demonstrating consistent alignment with entrepreneurial finance evolution.
Key recognitions include:
- Nestlé prize for outstanding dissertation
- Gold medal for dissertation excellence
- JP Morgan Fellowship at Harvard
Professional engagement spans executive education for multinational corporations, 100+ M&A deals advised through Cenciarini & Co., and board leadership in Italian/international financial institutions. His boutique investment bank has executed equity investments for 20+ companies while focusing on restructuring and startup incubation.
Through SDA Bocconi networks and international affiliations, he integrates academic rigor with real-world financial practice, particularly in entrepreneurial venture development and corporate transformation contexts.
