Renran Tian is an Assistant Professor at the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University (NC State), joining in fall 2024. Previously, he held an assistant professor position at Purdue University in Indianapolis (2018-2024).
- Research Focus: Human-centered AI systems for transportation, integrating cognitive psychology and ergonomic design.
- Funding: Over $3.1 million as principal investigator from NSF, Indiana DOT, and automotive industry sponsors; $4 million total as co-PI.
His research optimizes human-intelligent system interactions through adaptive AI, cognitive modeling, and safety-focused design. Recent work emphasizes pedestrian behavior prediction, human-AI negotiation in urban mobility, and E-scooter safety systems.
