Christopher B. Mayhorn

Dr. Christopher B. Mayhorn is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Psychology at North Carolina State University (NC State), specializing in Human Factors and Ergonomics. He concurrently serves as Interim-Director of the Center for Family and Community Engagement (CFACE). His academic journey includes a B.A. from The Citadel (1992), M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia (1995 and 1999), and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Georgia Tech. His research focuses on everyday memory, decision-making, human-computer interaction, and safety communication for older adults. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and secured funding from NSF, NSA, and industry partnerships.

Dr. Mayhorn’s research interests span applied cognition, human-technology interaction, and warning system design. He has led projects on improving medication adherence via PDAs, enhancing disaster risk communication, and phishing detection training. His awards include Fellow status in the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and NC State’s University Faculty Scholar distinction. He engages in professional service as Chair of the HFES Technical Program Committee and on the HFES Government Relations Committee.
