Renee Prymus is a Teaching Associate Professor and Director of the First-Year Engineering Composition Program at the University of Pittsburgh. She holds affiliations with the Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences, Swanson School of Engineering, and First-Year Programs. Her professional roles include teaching composition courses such as Writing for the Sciences and coordinating academic writing initiatives for engineering students. Prymus has been at Pitt since 2007 and previously served as a writing consultant at Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Chemistry.
She holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of Pittsburgh (2010) and a Master of Ministries from Bethel College (2007). Her research focuses on first-year composition pedagogy, engineering education, science writing, and gamification strategies in academia. She directs the Vibrant Media Lab, exploring intersections between technology and communication.
Her 2022-2023 First Year Programs Instructor of the Year award reflects her impact on student learning. Courses taught span disciplinary boundaries, including professional editing, journalism, and seminar-based composition focused on engineering and education. Her publications blend academic research and creative writing, addressing both educational methodologies and personal narrative forms.
