Renee M. Johnson, PhD, MPH is a Professor and Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the Department of Mental Health at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health. She also serves as Deputy Chair for the DrPH Program, co-leads the Drug Dependence Epidemiology Training Program, and holds roles at the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research & Policy. Her work focuses on substance use prevention, overdose mitigation, injury/violence research, and health equity among adolescents and vulnerable populations.

Research Interests: Combines social epidemiology and behavioral science to address marijuana/cannabis policies, opioid-related overdose, trauma, and health disparities. Her recent work emphasizes racial/ethnic inequities in adverse childhood experiences and community-level interventions for substance use prevention.
Publications Overview: Over 130+ peer-reviewed articles, with recent focus on cannabis use perceptions among Black youth, ACE disparities in Maryland adolescents, and long-term marijuana use trends. Her work bridges clinical epidemiology with population-level health policy.
