Dr Renato Costa is an Associate Lecturer and Lecturer at the TC Beirne School of Law, The University of Queensland, where he also serves as Associate Editor of the University of Queensland Law Journal. He holds a PhD and LLM from UQ and an LLB from the Catholic University of Pernambuco, Brazil. His research focuses on constitutional theory, Australian constitutionalism, federalism, rule of law, religious freedom, and political theology. He teaches Public and Constitutional Law and has contributed widely to comparative constitutional law studies through publications and international conferences. His work bridges legal theory with practical governance challenges, particularly in federative systems.

Renato’s research explores constitutional ontology, pseudo vs genuine constitutionalism, and the intersection of theology with legal frameworks. His teaching emphasizes critical engagement with foundational legal principles and their modern applications.
