Renarta H. Tompkins is an Associate Professor of Literacy at the University of South Carolina Beaufort's Department of Education. Her research focuses on evaluating and improving K-8 reading achievement scores, with particular emphasis on enhancing literacy rates for minority students through fluency development, culturally relevant practices, and historical studies of African-American education systems.
Education includes: BS in Psychology (Illinois Institute of Technology), Reading Certification K-12 (Clayton County Schools/West Georgia College), MEd in Early Childhood Education (Emory University), Leadership Certification in Instructional Supervision (West Georgia College), and PhD in Literacy (Emory University).
Her extensive community service includes developing training manuals for United Way's Early Grades Reading Initiative, Read Across America participation, and Family Literacy Workshops.
