René van Weeren is a Researcher and Teacher in Economic and Social History at Utrecht University's Faculty of Humanities. He serves as Research Coordinator for the Economic and Social History department and holds multiple significant administrative roles including Office Manager of the N.W. Posthumus Institute (since July 2021) and Platform Manager of the Platform Bottom-up Initiatives for Societal Change (from January 2024). He also provides logistic and research support for the CLARIAH PLUS project's Work Package 4 on Socio-economic History.
With extensive expertise in archival research and paleography, René has managed numerous research projects throughout his career. His professional trajectory shows a transition from healthcare (where he worked as a state registered nurse) to academic research support. His current work focuses on socio-economic history methodologies and facilitating collaborative research across multiple institutions.

René was instrumental in managing the Citizen Science project 'Ja, ik wil!' ['Yes, I do!'] (2015-2017), which resulted in a published book. His organizational skills were particularly evident when he coordinated the IASC2017 Conference 'Practicing the Commons' in Utrecht, which attracted over 800 participants from 72 countries.
