Rema Raman, PhD, is a Professor of Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC). She serves as Director of the Biostatistics Section and Recruitment, Engagement, and Retention (RER) Section at the Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI). Dr. Raman leads key units within the NIH-funded Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC), including Biostatistics, Recruitment & Retention, and ACT-E2A2. Her work focuses on clinical trial design, advanced statistical methods for missing data, and strategies to improve participant recruitment and retention in Alzheimer’s disease research.
As co-director of the Institute of Methods and Protocols for Advancement of Clinical Trials in ADRD (IMPACT-AD), funded by NIA and the Alzheimer’s Association, she trains future clinical trial researchers in Alzheimer’s disease. Her research bridges biostatistics, neurology, and public health, emphasizing diversity inclusion and innovative trial methodologies.
Her articles explore Alzheimer’s pathophysiology, biomarker applications, trial safety monitoring, and disparities in clinical trial participation. Notable contributions include studies on racial/ethnic disparities in biomarker eligibility and AI-driven safety protocols. She collaborates across disciplines to address global dementia challenges, including work highlighted in the 2022 Symposium on Dementia in LMICs.
Dr. Raman’s teaching spans biostatistics and trial methodology for students and clinicians. She oversees projects like the U.S. POINTER lifestyle intervention study and the AU-ARROW dementia prevention trial. Her work emphasizes ethical recruitment practices and data-driven approaches to improve clinical trial outcomes.
