Reinhard R. Beichel is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iowa's College of Engineering. He is also affiliated with the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging and the Iowa Initiative for Artificial Intelligence, where he contributes to interdisciplinary research in medical imaging and artificial intelligence.
His research focuses on medical image analysis and graphics, with core expertise in lung image analysis, PET image analysis, and the development of robust model-based and efficient interactive segmentation methods. His work bridges computer vision, graphics, and clinical applications.
Dr. Beichel leads the Medical Computer Vision & Graphics Lab, which advances computational techniques for medical imaging. He is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), including the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
He earned his PhD and MS in Telematics (Computer Science) from Graz University of Technology in 2005 and 1999, respectively. His scholarly output can be explored via his Google Scholar profile, which includes numerous publications, citations, and a strong h-index.
Dr. Beichel joined the University of Iowa faculty in 2007 and continues to contribute to research, mentorship, and academic leadership in biomedical engineering and computing.
