Linda Shapiro is the Boeing Endowed Professor in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington, with joint appointments in Electrical & Computer Engineering and Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education. She directs research at the Graphics & Imaging Laboratory (GRAIL) and contributes to the UW Reality Lab. Her academic journey includes a B.S. in Mathematics from University of Illinois (1970) and M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Iowa (1972, 1974).
Her research spans computer vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning with biomedical applications including cancer biopsy analysis, brain imaging, and semantic segmentation. Key projects include 3D object recognition, melanoma pathology improvement, digital pathology analysis, and deep learning for expression recognition.

Laboratories & Teams: Leads the Graphics & Imaging Laboratory (GRAIL) focusing on 3D reconstruction, medical imaging, and deep learning applications. Collaborates with the UW Reality Lab on augmented/virtual reality projects.
