Professor Reid Mortensen holds a Personal Chair in Law at the University of Southern Queensland's School of Law and Justice. He obtained his PhD from the University of Queensland following a BCom(Hons) and LLB(Hons) from the same institution. His scholarship spans private international law, legal theory, and professional ethics.
Mortensen's research examines jurisdictional conflicts, trans-Tasman legal integration, and the philosophical foundations of legal ethics. His recent work explores family provision in cross-border contexts and the evolution of lawyer professionalism.
Current research investigates religious freedom limitations in legal education settings and jurisdictional aspects of corporate restructuring. Professor Mortensen supervises doctoral candidates studying coercive control legislation, religious law schools, and private international law frameworks.
Professional memberships include the Australian Academy of Law and Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has authored multiple editions of the authoritative text 'Private International Law in Australia' and serves as an expert consultant on international jurisdiction matters.
Teaching responsibilities include advanced courses in private international law and legal ethics. Professor Mortensen developed innovative teaching modules on transnational litigation that have been adopted by law schools across Australia and New Zealand.
