Regitze Kjær Zimmermann is a Researcher at Aalborg University's Department of the Built Environment, within The Faculty of Engineering and Science. She earned a PhD in 2023 from the same institution, with her thesis titled 'Towards Low-carbon Design in the Building Sector', focusing on reducing emissions in building renovations and integrating BIM with LCA. Prior to this, she completed an M.Sc. in Architectural Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
- PhD: 2023, Aalborg University, Department of the Built Environment
- M.Sc. (Architectural Engineering): DTU
Her research interests span sustainable construction, low-carbon design, life cycle assessment (LCA), building renovation, circular economy strategies, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. She focuses on bridging academic research with industry practices, particularly in Denmark, through innovative tools like LCAbyg and BIM integration.
Zimmermann has contributed to 16 projects since 2015, including:
- FuturHist (Horizon Europe) (2024–2027): Investigates historical building renovation and sustainability.
- Hedeskov – Center for Regenerative Practice (2023–2028): Leads regenerative design principles in built environments.
- Conformity check of LCA in DGNB certification (2023–2027): Validates LCA methodologies in industry standards.
She received the Det Bæredygtige Element - Produktprisen (2019) for her work in sustainable building materials and LCA applications.
Zimmermann actively engages in interdisciplinary collaboration, organizing workshops on LCA in construction and participating in international activities like visiting KTH Royal Institute of Technology (2022). She has also contributed to public debates on climate impacts of buildings and carbon footprint transparency in the media.
