Nickolaj Feldt Jensen is an Assistant Professor at BUILD, Aalborg University in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is affiliated with the Department of Construction, Urban and Environmental Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Science. His work is focused in the Section for Building Technology, Processes & Indoor Climate, specifically in the Building Physics Research Group.
Dr. Jensen's research interests span across building physics with particular focus on moisture-related phenomena in buildings. His work encompasses moisture damage, mold growth, wood-decaying fungi, interior post-insulation, hygrothermal simulations, and green roofs. His expertise lies in understanding heat and moisture transport in buildings and structures, with special attention to the challenges of retrofitting historic buildings.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on internal insulation systems, particularly for solid masonry walls in historic buildings. His research examines the hygrothermal performance, moisture control, and energy efficiency implications of various insulation approaches. He has published extensively on mold growth assessment, moisture adaptive membranes, and hydrophobization techniques to improve building performance.
- Mold Growth Analysis: Several publications examine mold growth in buildings, including detection methods and risk assessment under different climate conditions.
- Internal Insulation Performance: Multiple studies evaluate different internal insulation systems, focusing on real-world performance and long-term durability.
- Moisture Control Strategies: Research on moisture adaptive membranes, hydrophobization, and ventilated cavity solutions for managing moisture in insulated buildings.
Dr. Jensen has been actively involved in numerous research projects including FuturHist (Horizon Europe), Hedeskov – Center for Regenerative Practice, and VIGOT (Green Transformation of Carpenter Education). These projects address critical challenges in sustainable building renovation, regenerative practices, and workforce development for green construction.
His expertise is frequently sought for technical guidance in building renovation, as evidenced by his participation in developing SBi guidelines for renovating floor separations with timber beams and concrete.
