Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciencesمعرفی
Regina M Day is a Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Therapeutics at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. She holds adjunct appointments at Georgetown University and has held academic roles at USUHS since 2004, progressing through tenure-track Assistant, Associate, and full Professor positions. Her research focuses on radiation injury mechanisms, tissue repair processes, and fibrotic remodeling. Dr. Day leads a laboratory investigating therapeutic interventions for radiation-induced lung and hematopoietic injuries, including captopril and HGF signaling pathways. Her work combines in vivo murine models with in vitro cell culture systems to study molecular mechanisms of repair failure.
- Education: A.B. from Smith College (199?), Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Tufts University (200?)
- Key Research Areas: Radiation countermeasures, fibrosis suppression, HGF-MET signaling, senescence mechanisms
Her laboratory has developed novel animal models for combined hematopoietic and lung radiation injury, identified IGF-1 signaling in radiation-induced senescence, and patented a synthetic HGF receptor-binding peptide. Current projects include minipig testing of radiation countermeasures and mechanisms of HGF mRNA regulation via miRNA.
Scientific contributions include over 30 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work emphasizing transcriptomic analysis of radiation-exposed cells and iron deposition in acute radiation syndrome. Her research bridges basic science and translational medicine, addressing military and civilian needs for radiation injury prevention/treatment.
Advising and grants: Dr. Day has mentored multiple research teams and secured funding for radiation biology initiatives. Her lab collaborates with institutions like NIH/NCI and Henry M. Jackson Foundation.
Labs/Teams: Principal Investigator of the Radiation Biology and Tissue Repair Lab at USUHS, leading interdisciplinary research into regenerative medicine and fibrotic diseases.
