Reed Chewning is an Associate Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Converse University, affiliated with the Department of Social Sciences in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She serves as Director of Child and Family Studies and Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Her teaching and leadership focus on secondary and middle-level education programs.

- BA in English and Art History – Wofford College
Dr. Chewning specializes in teacher education, with research interests in teacher dispositions, technology integration, developmentally responsive teaching, and 21st-century literacies. Her work emphasizes pedagogical effectiveness and adolescent development in middle and secondary classrooms.
She is an active member of the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators, serving as web administrator and President-elect. Her dedication to teaching excellence is recognized through multiple Fullerton Teaching Excellence Awards.
Dr. Chewning advises undergraduate secondary education minors and MAT candidates. She also teaches courses in clinical practice, adolescent development, assessment, and literature for children. Outside academia, she enjoys sailing and serves as a swim official.

She is a National Board Certified Teacher with prior teaching experience at Limestone College and K–12 classroom experience in English and social studies.
