Rebekah Heckmann, MD, MPH, MPA is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She holds multiple roles including Research Scientist at the Yale Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation, Director of Resident Research for Emergency Medicine, and Core Faculty for the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine. Her research focuses on health policy analysis and system dynamics modeling to design evidence-based policies, particularly in addiction medicine and emergency care. She is board certified in both emergency medicine and addiction medicine.
Education: MD from University of Minnesota (2011), MPH from Columbia University (2006), MPA from Harvard Kennedy School (2017). Completed residency and chief residency in emergency medicine at the University of Washington, followed by a health policy fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Research interests include overdose prevention, health equity, and policy interventions for substance use disorders. Recent work involves system dynamics modeling to address disparities in agitation management and workplace violence in emergency settings, supported by a $3.7M NIMH R01 grant. Collaborations include studies on housing status impacts, treatment engagement, and clinical decision support systems.
