Dr Rebecca Walker is a Research Associate at the School of Divinity, University of St Andrews, and a Modern Humanities Research Association Postdoctoral Scholar in the School of Modern Languages. She holds a PhD in Italian (2021), an MLitt in Italian Studies (2017), and an MA in French and Italian (2016), all from St Andrews. Her research focuses on 20th/21st-century women's writing, particularly Italian authors like Elena Ferrante and Goliarda Sapienza, with recent work exploring theological dimensions in modern Italian literature. She teaches courses on Italian language, culture, and literature, including specialized modules on Elena Ferrante and modernist drama.
Her awards include the Society for Italian Studies Postgraduate Prize (2018) and the Contemporary Women's Writing Essay Prize (2018). Current projects involve preparing her doctoral thesis for publication and investigating responses to Roman Catholicism in women's writing. She has published widely in journals like Annali d'Italianistica and Textual Practice, focusing on themes of fragmentation, trauma, and subjectivity in literature.
Teaching responsibilities include foundational Italian language courses (IT1001-IT2002), cultural modules (IT1013-IT1014), and advanced topics like Elena Ferrante (IT4033) and Literary Theory (ML5020). She contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives such as the St Andrews Encyclopaedia of Theology and the Modern Humanities Research Association fellowship program.
