Dr. Rebecca Thornton is a Senior Lecturer at Deakin University's School of Nursing & Midwifery within the Faculty of Health. She holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Nursing from La Trobe University. Her research focuses on pediatric nursing, neonatal bereavement care, family-centered care practices, and the intersection of compassion with healthcare quality.
Her work emphasizes parental experiences during neonatal end-of-life care, memory-making processes in bereavement, and improving practice environments for pediatric nurses. Recent studies explore compassion's role in pediatric nursing and the impact of non-clinical delays in post-anesthetic care units.
Dr. Thornton currently supervises doctoral candidate Chelsea Webster on a project co-designing a bereaved parents' breastmilk donor and support program. She has no listed scientific awards but maintains active research collaborations through Deakin's Nursing & Midwifery School.
