Dr. Rebecca Sutherland is a Lecturer and Speech Pathologist affiliated with the University of Sydney's Sydney School of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She is also a member of the Brain and Mind Centre. Holding a PhD (2020) from the University of Sydney, her research focuses on telehealth applications for diverse populations, particularly children with language difficulties and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Prior to her academic role, she worked in government and non-profit sectors, including positions at the Children's Hospital at Westmead and Griffith University's Autism Centre for Excellence.
Her research interests include telehealth feasibility, ASD diagnosis and intervention, and speech-language pathology practices. Current projects include the TELE-ASD-PEDS study, exploring telehealth-based autism identification in young children. She has received the Sydney Health Partners Award (2022) for her work bridging research and clinical practice.
Dr. Sutherland has contributed to grants such as the 2024 BMC collaboration on child neurodevelopment and mental health. Her publications emphasize telehealth innovations, echolalia in autism, and clinical assessment methodologies. Media engagements include discussions on telehealth during lockdowns and bilingual upbringing in ASD.
