Dr. Rebecca Splan serves as Associate Professor in the Equine Science and Management Department at Delaware Valley University since August 2018, bringing over 30 years of horse industry experience and 20+ years in higher education. Previously, she taught at the University of Minnesota, Sul Ross State University, and Virginia Tech where she directed the sport horse breeding program.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics, University of Nebraska
- M.S. in Animal Breeding and Genetics, University of Nebraska
- B.S. in Animal Science, Michigan State University
Dr. Splan specializes in creating experiential learning opportunities through undergraduate research initiatives, international study programs in Germany, Austria, Ireland, and Great Britain, and hands-on curriculum development focused on real-world industry applications. Her teaching methodology integrates case studies, field trips, industry expert discussions, and lab activities to prepare students for equine careers.

- L Program graduate with honors
She actively mentors students through study abroad programs that have engaged nearly 40 DelVal students, emphasizing global perspectives in the horse industry. Her leadership extends to board roles with the National Association of Equine Affiliated Academics, International Sporthorse Registry/Oldenburg Registry North America, Virginia Arabian Horse Association, and Livestock Conservancy. Outside academia, Dr. Splan practices equine photography and competes with her Quarter Horse mare in Ranch Riding events.
